Schedule of Freeman Foundation Seminar on East Asia for Georgia School Teachers
Teaching East Asia: A Seminar and Workshop for Georgia Teachers of Elementary and Secondary schools sponsored by generous support of the Freeman Foundation of Honolulu, Hawaii and the National Consortium for Teaching Asia. The Georgia Seminar and Workshop for Teachers takes place on the campus of the University of Georgia/Athens. The Seminar begins at 1pm Friday, June 14 and concludes at noon Monday, June 17.

Dr. Farley Richmond (Program Director)
Dr. Richmond is professor and former head of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the University of Georgia. His PhD is from Michigan State University. Professor Richmond’s specialties and research interests are in Asian theatre with emphasis on Indian drama and theatre. Dr. Rongbin Han
Dr. Han is assistant professor in the School of International and Public Affairs at the University of Georgia. Dr. Han holds the PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. His area of research and scholarship is focused on China’s politics and political system as well as the comparative political systems of East Asia. Dr. Ari Levine
Dr. Levine is an Associate Professor of History, Chinese history and philosophy at UGA. He specializes in the cultural and intellectual history of early modern China, and teaches a broad range of courses in Chinese, East Asian, and world history. |
Ms. Gulshirin Dubash
Ms. Gulshirin Dubash teaches at Interlochen Center for the Arts, and is an actor and theatre educator originally from Bombay, India. Dubash has worked and directed at numerous colleges and universities, including University of Michigan, Washington and Lee, Northern Illinois University, Calvin College, University of Notre Dame, and the University of Georgia. Dr. Kevin Hsieh is Associate Professor in the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design, Georgia State University. Dr. Kendall Marchman
Dr. Marchman is an Assistant Professor of Religion at the University of Georgia. He researches the development of Pure Land Buddhist thought and practice during the Tang dynasty (618-907), but also enjoys a broader focus on religions in China. Dr. Masaki Mori
Dr. Mori is an Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Georgia. His main research interest is in modern Japanese literature, as well as in the epic, Romanticism, and Asian-American literature. In addition, he is a board member of the Southern Comparative Literature Association and the Assistant Director of the Japanese Program at UGA. |
